Former track star among world's best

Former men's track and field standout Dan Hytinen competed in Madison Saturday where he recorded a personal best in the discus and improved his position in the U.S. and World rankings.

Hytinen won the 2009 Wisconsin Twilight Invitational discus competition and shattered a 23-year-old facility record by two meters with his throw of 60.54 meters.

The WIAC record holder surpassed the University of Wisconsin record (56.70m) and broke the McClimon Complex record (58.38m), which was previously set in 1986.

Hytinen ranks 38th in the world and 8th in the U.S. according to the world track and field rankings posted by the International Association of Athletics Federation.

In 2008 Hytinen won the Division III National Championship in the discus and broke the Division III record with his throw of 59.42 meters.
