As a lifelong sports fan, I've grown accustomed to watching the clock. I was either waiting for it to hit zero or hoping my team could come back before it expired.

When I started writing for the Royal Purple and freelancing for newspapers, it was still all about the clock. I always had to rush to get things done on time.

And a few weeks ago, the question of "How much longer do I have to be in school?" became "How much longer do I get to be in school?"

But it's not school I'm going to miss; it's the Royal Purple. I've been very lucky, and I owe a lot to a lot of people.

To Sam Martino, who was beyond annoying at times, but always had my best interests in mind and supported me.

To everyone involved with the Royal Purple over the past nine months, especially a select few individuals:

Alison Wisneski - The first person who was open to being my friend when I walked in the door and didn't know anyone.

Joy Kowald - The only one who's awake at 3 a.m. to listen to my musings and farts.

Amy Azzi - We haven't known each other that long, but you always laugh at my jokes, and I consider you a great friend.

Danielle Calkins - You're worth your weight in gold, and that's saying a lot. Seriously, you are such a fun person, I'm glad I got to know you, and I loved making fun of you constantly; you took it like a champ and were great at dishing it back.

Abigail Naumann - The GOAT EIC. I owe a lot to you, you were great to work with, and I want to be secretary of defense when you're president.

Chris Kuhagen - I honestly believe I will read your columns on JSOnline someday. Never change the way you are.

I'd also like to thank the strangers who sent me e-mails, Facebook'd me, and sometimes even stopped me on campus to compliment my work. It always felt great.

Last, I owe everything I have to my family. To my parents, who did everything they could and were almost never thanked, and to all four of my brothers, who've always been there when I need something, but especially John. You were always willing to feed my hunger for arguing. You are literally always there for me. You are my heart and I love you.
