The University Police Department plans to fully staff graduation on Saturday.

University Police Chief Matt Kiederlen said most officers from the department will be working, and the State Patrol will assist with traffic control. About 12 students from Reserve Officers' Training Corps also will assist.

"Commencement, while it's a fairly large-scale event for the campus, is relatively routine in its planning process because we know what to expect, we know when people are coming, when they are leaving," he said.

Kiederlen said the primary focus is traffic control. Officers also are stationed inside in case of emergency situations.

"Really it's a pretty basic function for our officers," he said. "It's, 'go to your post, answer questions, react if you're called.' A football game is probably far more stressful, quite frankly, than this."

Kiederlen said problems are usually logistical rather than criminal.

"We have issues with the number of bathrooms ... we have issues with people not knowing where to go, handicapped individuals and getting them moved around, strollers, those types of things."
