While some people may be heading home, there's still plenty of things to do in Whitewater over summer break. The UW-Whitewater Theatre/Dance Department's 2009 Summeround season runs through July and August, offering three very different plays. Season tickets for the general public are $24 with discounts available for those over 65, under 18 and UW-Whitewater students.

"The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" runs from June 23-27 at 7:30 p.m. It is a parody of Shakespeare's works with only three actors. Junior Zach Kunde will portray characters such as King Lear, Richard III and Romeo.

"It isn't written by Shakespeare, it is an entire parody of everything the man ever wrote," Kunde said. "Literally every work is referenced at one point, and any lover or hater of Shakespeare is sure to enjoy and laugh. I believe every time we perform, Shakespeare is spinning in his grave."

Kunde, who before "The Complete Works" will be performing with the National Tour Company's version of "Tony n' Tina's Wedding," said the show changes from night to night.

"Any given night the show will be different than the night before and more than likely more crazy," Kunde said.

Another play this summer is "Wait Until Dark," which goes from July 7-11, at 7:30 p.m. "Wait Until Dark" tells the story of a blind woman who is targeted by three men who wish to retrieve an unusually valuable doll. The play was turned into a movie which was rated 10th on Bravo's "100 Scariest Movie Moments."

Junior Tyler King plays Mike, one of the three con men.

"'Wait Until Dark' is a thriller that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats until the very last moment of the show," King said. "Parts of it even take place in the pitch black so the audience won't be able to see a thing. It gives a sense of suspense as well as a feeling into Susy's world very effectively."

"Nunsense 3: Sister Mary Amnesia's Country Western Jamboree" is the third and final play in this year's Summeround. It runs from July 21-25, at 7:30 p.m. and on July 26 at 2 p.m. In this play, Sister Mary Amnesia, a nun who wanted to become a country music star, performs a concert to promote her new album.

The summer shows will be different than performances during the year.

"Our department tries to make as many parts available to students as possible when it comes to the school year shows," King said. "But in the summer many of the students head home so they are able to do smaller shows."

"We have a great selection of shows this summer for all ages and interests and very talented casts to back them up," King said.

All the plays will be performed at the Hickland Studio Theatre. Tickets are available either through (262) 472-2222 or tickets.uww.edu.
