A 22-year-old student from UW-Whitewater is being treated for a possible case of Legionnaire's disease.

The student is being treated at Janesville's Mercy Hospital.

Legionnaires' disease has symptoms very similar to pneumonia. They includes high fever, chills, coughing and muscle aches.

If treated the disease can be successfully combated with antibiotics. Death can occur if left untreated in 5 to 30 percent of cases according to the Center for Disease Control.

The CDC says that the Legionella bacteria is can usually be found in water and can grow in especially well in warm water.

More information will be available as soon as information is released from the student's family. Check RoyalPurpleNews.com for more updates.
