"It's always good to have options," Carol Hizely, Walgreens corporate media relations specialist said.
Hizely said Walgreens has been growing in Wisconsin and nation wide; a new store is built every 18 hours.
Walgreens plans to hire a local staff of about 15 to 20 people and bring in an outside manager from one of their other stores. Hizely encourages students to apply online at www.walgreens.com.
This new addition to Main Street may add some competition to Wal-Mart, which is only a few blocks down the street.
"We have different shoppers [than Wal-Mart]," Hizely said. "Our shoppers are a type that are in and out quickly and [Wal-Mart] has the type that take a little more time."
Hizely said the new Walgreens will have a drive-thru pharmacy, photo finishing, digital photo services, late hours and will be open on holidays.
"The demands for prescription drugs is increasing dramatically because of the baby boomers," Hizely said. "We have better pricing."
City Manager Kevin Brunner said in the past the city did a survey asking students what they wanted in terms of additional retail. Number one was Target, number two was Walgreens.
"I'm glad to see that the students are getting what they want," Brunner said. "I'm please to have worked with Walgreens."
Hizely said Walgreens is looking forward to serving the community.

Walgreens stole my soul and will take yours too. Telly Knetter and Cameron Birch are Satan's minions.
