Get ready for an adventure. The Student Entertainment Awareness League is hosting a free night at Wall Crawlers, an indoor rock climbing track located downtown, this Saturday. All UW-Whitewater students with a valid ID are welcome between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. for unlimited fun. For those who are not a UW-Whitewater student, the cost is $17.94.

Members of SEAL felt that it was time to take the generosity of the organization off campus. This is an opportunity to support the local businesses here in Whitewater. The owner of Wall Crawlers, John Gelletta, thought exposing the students to this venue was a great idea.

With the support of resident assistants and peer mentors alike, SEAL Leadership Advisor Melissa Grosso expects roughly 100 students to take a chance at this activity. If it was up to Entertainment Interns Jacob Walton and Doc Roe, every student on campus would be attending this event. Roe said "the event speaks for itself and the marketing is great."

"I'm excited for [the event] and I'm looking forward to seeing [the turn out]," Walton said. "The staff [at Wall Crawlers] will give instructions at the beginning so I just want everyone to remember safety first."

In order to participate in the activity a waiver must be signed. The waiver states that there is an understanding of the dangers associated with wall climbing. For any climbers under the legal age of 18, a parent/legal guardian must sign the waiver. Waivers can be picked up at Wall Crawlers or at the Career & Leadership Development desk located in the University Center.

With the idea of safety first, it is critical to follow the rules set by the employees at Wall Crawlers. The instructions on how to belay and tie the knot connected to the harness should be followed through carefully. According to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary online, to belay is "to secure a rope [from the climber] to a person or object."

"There are two clients at a time, as one climbs, the other is at the bottom on the wall controlling the speed of the rope," Wall Crawler's employee Robert Dagget said. It is safe to say this is to help prevent any potential falls.

"I have no concerns about this event," Dagget said. "I think it's going to be a success. They get to climb all day long just by showing up with this student ID."

Not only is this a way to meet new people and learn how to trust others, it's a way to engage in an activity that is outside of the norm. "This is a way for students to get exposed to something different," Walton said. "Not many people go rock climbing."

Instead of sitting around in your dorm room with nothing constructive to do, look out for SEAL event posters located in the resident halls and sign-up boards for more information regarding this free night at Wall Crawlers. Listen carefully at every event hosted by SEAL where there will be pre-sign up announcements for your chance at some extreme fun.
