Starting Sept. 15, students will be able to view the graphic works of Maestro Shinzaburo Takeda and his students. The display will continue to run until Oct. 10. This cultural exhibit will be part of Latino Heritage Month, and will give students a way to learn and appreciate the Latino heritage.
Upon arrival, you will be able to view a number of Maestro's graphic works, as 25-30 prints are going to be shown, Assistant Director of the University Center, Kim Adams said.
Taking place Monday, Sept. 22 are three other events involving Maestro Shinzaburo Takeda. All will be in the University Center. "Identities and Cultures in Transformation" will be in the Old Main Ballroom. A reception for the Oaxaca Exhibit will be put on in the Fiskum Art Gallery. Lastly, "Mexican Muralists" will be held in the Hamilton Center. Look for flyers at the UC information desk concerning these events.
Members from Whitewater have traveled to Mexico to select prints to be shown at the art and cultural exhibit, according to Adams.
There are two parts to this cultural exchange: the first part, currently in progress, is the display of Maestro's painting with UW-Whitewater. The second part is exchanging UW-Whitewater graphic arts with Mexico, Adams said. Graphic students at UW-Whitewater will send over their works of art, which will be shown in Mexico.
Also going on are workshops for teachers, which are held at the university.
The event is being sponsored by organizations and programs involved with UW-Whitewater.
