Piling more than five people into a dorm room can get uncomfortable. The Student Entertainment and Awareness League has a solution to spacious movie enjoyment. Starting this weekend at 7 p.m. in the Summers Auditorium, located on the lower level of the University Center, every student on campus can enjoy a movie for one dollar.

SEAL is known for providing numerous affordable gatherings for students throughout the school year. Some of these events include dances, jazz nights in the Down Under, and concerts. One advantage of SEAL events is free admission nearly every time.

The on-campus movie theater is a great alternative to driving or taking the Brown Cab to the local movie theater. SEAL always has a few goodies for every viewer, whether it's a voucher for the perfect movie snack or a free admission to another movie, SEAL keeps every student hungry for more.

Movie nights are the only events that bring revenue to the organization. The money helps to create the budget for other movies, promotions and give-a-ways. A UW-W ID is required for all of the show times. For those who are not a UW-W student, the price of admission is $3, cheaper than the local movie theater.

"Sex and the City" will kick off this month's showings Friday and Saturday. SEAL's movie coordinator Dominique Ross is expecting a great turn out.

"Since the new freshmen are encouraged to get involved on campus, I'm hoping for at least 60-70 students to come out per showing," he said. "We have two showings, 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. That's about 100-150 people a day."

This is the first year pre-released movies are being shown during the movie nights. Ross has the notion there will be a lot more people at the showings compared to last year, because more people are able to identify with the films being shown.

"If these are the first movies of the month, [Iron Man, Sex and the City, Wanted, and Get Smart], just think about what's coming after this," Ross said.

Self-proclaimed "movie buff" Ross sees himself as the best man for the job of seeking out what the people want to see. Ross is solely responsible for bringing in the money SEAL needs him to raise.

"This is something I'm passionate about so it's not like work because it's something I like to do," Ross said.

One marketing strategy Ross plans to use in order to determine the turnout of future showings is conducting surveys of what the students want to see.

"This is for [the students]," Ross said. "If you stay [in Whitewater] during the weekends and have a UW-W ID then you can come," Ross said.
