Whitewater should organize for peace
Letter - Richard Sanford
Issue date: 5/14/08 Section: Opinion
On Jan. 2, 2003, the Watertown Peace Committee was formed to "Stop the War Before It Starts," Since that time we have remained together and actively attempted to point out the truth about this war and our demand to bring the troops home now. We have held events at the International Peace Garden at Watertown High School, Marches in protest of the War, a weekly community cable television program, for four years a weekly vigil at the municipal building, attendance in marches in Washington D.C., Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Stevens Point, Oconomowoc, Lake Mills, Fort Atkinson and Jefferson.
It perplexes us what is happening on your campus. Is there an anti-war peace group there? Do you stage a peace vigil on your campus; what is going on Warhawks?
Come on students-join the Watertown Peace Committee and we will help you get organized. Take back your country, first, take back your campus.
This is a call to all UW-Whitewater students who want to live in peace. Join in the movement-call 608-261-7115.

Good luck. The Iraq War has been going on for 6 years now and it appears that it is a non-issue, even in the campaign as the democrats have changed their position on the war. (Continued…)

We're WARhawks, not ExposeYourBellyToTerroristsHawks. There can be no lasting peace while terrorist dogs slaver at the idea of killing our innocents.

If the intelligence for WMD's were wrong, it still falls on Saddam for not allowing the inspectors in. I won't pretend we haven't made mistakes in this war, but where would we be when Saddam was killed or removed from power in some other way? He wasn't a young guy, you know. (Continued…)

Yes there is a peace group on campus and we have accomplished much this last school year. The group is called P.E.A.C.E. With a group of devoted members we have attended peace vigils, protests, had a panel of people come to campus to talk about the Iraq war, had an event called Rock For Peace (where we raised money for both the Whitewater Food Pantry and the Association for the Prevention of Family Violence) and did many other small things around campus.
