Dear Abi,

I just got back from sunny spring break beaches and am in love with my glowing tan. I want to maintain it through the summer, but don't want to damage my skin. What are my options?

Bronze Brenda

Bronze Brenda,

To tan or not to tan? That is the question. Brown bodies seem to be the latest and greatest thing since sliced bread. But before sacrificing your skin and conforming to the tan trend, you ought to consider the indelible costs.

The truth is, tanning isn't all that bad for your bod. In fact, dependent on your complexion, soaking up some pseudo-sun can actually be somewhat beneficial. But just like chocolate cake and nights on the town, UV rays are best in moderation.

When pursuing your golden glow it is absolutely essential to remember to lather up. Not only will applying lotion help prevent you from frying your skin, but it will also nip wrinkles in the bud. There is practically a lotion designed for every skin type, fragrance, and color desired. And with all the foofy perks such as skin firmer, triple bronzers, hemp extract, tingle factor, and tan extender, it is probably best to consult your friendly salon attendant for assistance when selecting which lotion is best for you.

Avoid long-term derma-damage by appropriately moderating your booth time. Burning is your worst enemy. Not only is sunburn painful and uncomfortable, but it is also the culprit of cancer.

All things considered maintaining your golden glow isn't far fetched at all. If done with care you can abandon your ghostly mid-west hue and pass for a coastal character from Laguna Beach, with no problems at all.

But there can be too much of a good thing. Be weary of becoming "tanorexic." Remember, there's a difference between a gorgeous glow and an unnatural Oompa Loompa orange.

Best of luck,
Abi
