The UW-Whitewater bookstore isn't the only place students can find apparel showing support of the Warhawk football team's national championship.
If a local business wishes to sell UW-Whitewater apparel, a handful of requirements must be met Steve Summers said. Summers is responsible for some of the fine print details of selling UW-Whitewater merchandise.
"The university has licensed all of its logos and stores that sell our logo have to work with a licensed vendor," Summers said.
The university went with a licensing company about a decade ago to control how its logos are used. When a store would like to sell UW-Whitewater apparel, designs are submitted and then carefully examined to make sure that logos and slogans are properly portrayed.
On campus, championship apparel is currently being sold at the bookstore, which is temporarily located in Drumlin Hall, and Willy's Hawk Shop in the University Center.
Hooded sweatshirts run for $39.98 and can be found in gray. Black long sleeve t-shirts cost $24.98 and regular t-shirts are $19.99. Two kinds of one-size-fits-all baseball hats can be found, one of which is a locker room hat.
University Bookstore Director Terry Meinel said the bookstore pays an 8 percent royalty for the use of the Warhawk.
The Warhawk is the primary symbol and is used on most sport-related items whereas the university's seal is used for more formal things. Any business selling UW-Whitewater apparel must also pay a licensing fee.
Other locations commemorating the victory over Mount Union College in December include Wal-Mart and McCullough's Pharmacy.
Bob McCullough, owner of McCullough's Pharmacy, said the store has been a longstanding supporter of the Warhawks and the university and is proud of the fact that apparel can be found there.
"We got the apparel in the Monday after they won," McCullough said.
The pharmacy sells grey hooded sweatshirts for $27.95, purple and gray long sleeve tees for $11.95, and purple and gray t-shirts for $9.95.
Wal-Mart's prices are the least expensive. Hooded sweatshirts can be found in black, gray, or purple and cost $19.83. Sweatshirts are in either black or purple and cost $14.83. T-shirts are in black, gray, and purple and cost $6.50.
