When Andrew Ullrich was seven-years-old, he suffered a stroke but quickly recovered to play in Little League. He received the "Good Sport" award that year, senior Hilary Wheelan, who dated Ullrich for three years, said.
Ullrich, a UW-Whitewater senior, died Jan. 23 in his off-campus apartment at 355 N. Tratt St. His friend found him at about 2 p.m., according to the Whitewater Police Department news release.
His friends quickly made a Facebook group in honor of him. They are also are raising funds for his family to make a scholarship or memorial in his name. Anyone wishing to donate can contact Kelsey Sullivan at SullivanKA18@uww.edu.
Ullrich loved the outdoors, Wheelan said
"Any chance he got, he went up to a cabin he shared with his hunting buddies near Wisconsin Dells, or he came to my parents' house in Iola, which is surrounded by woods," she said. "[He] helped my dad with any outdoor chore he could. His dream was to one day own land up north that he would live off of."
Ullrich was a part of Lambda Chi Alpha, which was temporarily shut down, but he still worked to keep the house grounds looking good. He would shovel the sidewalks and take care of the lawn.
"It was his dream to live in that house again," Wheelan said.
Ullrich had a sister, Anna, who was a student at UW-LaCrosse. She is studying abroad in Spain this semester. Before she left, her friends threw her a surprise good-bye party in LaCrosse, but Ullrich was unable to make it. Instead, he planned a surprise party in Menomonee Falls so he could be there for his sister, Wheelan said.
