The women's swimming and diving team had a dominating performance during the weekend by annihilating the Beloit College Buccaneers and the Coe College Kohawks Saturday afternoon in the Williams Center pool.
UW-Whitewater defeated Beloit College 151-70, and Coe College 140-71, while winning 11 out of 13 events at the meet.
The Warhawks had multiple individual winners at Saturday's competition. The team was led by senior Casey Alf, who was victorious in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 25.41 and 56.54 seconds. Freshman Katelyn Britt also contributed to the victory with first-place finishes in the one and 3-meter diving events, scoring 220.30 and 250.85 points, respectively.
Head Coach Joel Rollings was impressed with his team's performance during the meet.
"The women did very well," Rollings said. "We trained hard all week and they still performed very well."
Additionally, Rollings was surprised of how good some of his swimmers performed in events they weren't accustomed to doing.
"Britt had an outstanding day in 3-meter diving," Rollings said. "This is her first season doing that event, and she barely missed qualifying for nationals. Also, junior Jess Wells had season best times in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events."
In group competition, the 'Hawks won both the 200-yard medley and the 400-yard freestyle relays. The team of Danyelle and Courtney Jenkins, along with teammates George and Kristen Jahn earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:59.20. George also joined Alf and freshmen Hannah Peppey and Kaylyn Howley secure a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle at 3:54.17.
After the meet, Rollings has his team set in championship mode for the remainder of the season.
"This was the last meet of the semester and next semester," Rollings said. "We are going into our championship training phase where we begin to specialize and prepare for the [Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference] meet. I think if they continue to train like they have over the past few weeks we will have an outstanding conference meet."
The Warhawks will host Lawrence University at the Williams Center pool on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.
