Private donors were honored during a special University Center opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Jan. 19.

The donors, who included James and Zoe Connor, Donna and John Surinak, Jim and Pat Freer, Robert and Yvonne Fiskum and the Summers family, toured the UC.

The UC has lounges, meeting rooms, an auditorium, dinning rooms and an art gallery.

The $20.4 million renovation project features an additional 50,000 square feet, connecting the two wings.

"It is going to be a delightful addition to the campus," Interim Chancellor Richard Telfer said. "Just to have a place to gather … it is really nice."

Construction on the UC began in the summer of 2006.

The Royal Purple will have full coverage in the Jan. 23 issue.
