Gagliardi trophy winner Justin Beaver celebrates after defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor 16-7 last Saturday. The Warhawk football team will play top-ranked Mount Union (Ohio) in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl national championship this Saturday.

The Warhawk football team is facing its championship foe for the third year in a row. The Mount Union Purple Raiders (14-0) won the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in 2005 and 2006. However, UW-Whitewater (13-1) is seeking the 2007 championship title Saturday in Salem, Va.

"You want to be playing your best football at the end of the season, and I feel that's what we've been doing," UW-Whitewater Head Coach Lance Leipold said. "It's all really come together here the last third of the season."

Although the Purple Raiders have beaten the 'Hawks the previous two seasons, Mount Union Head Coach Larry Kehres is taking the match-up between the two teams seriously.

"This is a really good team," he said. "I wish we weren't playing a team that is so darn good."

The Stagg Bowl kick off is Saturday at 3 p.m. CST, and is being shown nationally on ESPN. Fan buses are available for transportation to the game.

The first bus leaves Thursday at 8 a.m. Fans will spend Thursday and Friday night at the Quality Inn for $61.99 a night. The bus fare is $150 for students and $175 for others. The game tickets are $7 for students and $12.50 for non-students. The second bus leaves Friday at 6 p.m. and bus fare is $100 for students and $125 for non-students.

Anyone interested in recording a video greeting for the football team can go to Hyer Hall room 400 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Thursday, and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday
