The top five couples are Sean O'Brien and Carolyn Schweitzer for American Marketing Association, Melissa Rahlf and Ryan Boesch for Association for the Education of Young Children, Allison Rygh and Derek Henze for Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization, Robert Pruess and Stacy Kreuziger for Impact, and Pedro Veloz and Rubith Garcia for Latinos Unidos.
O'Brien said he ran for Homecoming Court because he thought it would be a fun experience and he wanted to help promote the American Marketing Association.
"Homecoming is a time for alumni and friends to appreciate what Whitewater has to offer," he said.
O'Brien's running mate for the American Marketing Association, Carolyn Schweitzer, said Homecoming is "an event that brings together the entire UW-Whitewater community and brings out the best in people."
Rygh said running for Homecoming Court gave her a chance to step out of her role as a student and R.A.
"It's a great opportunity to demonstrate your passion for Whitewater," she said. "Homecoming is my favorite time of the year. Everyone sticks around for the weekend and has a good time."
Promoting Impact was the reason Robert Pruess and Stacy Kreuziger decided to run for Homecoming Court.
"We wanted to run because it's the first year our organization has done this," Pruess said.
Pruess said Impact has been around for 20 years, and they wanted to make this year a "coming out" year.
"Homecoming is a big deal," he said. "No matter who you are, it's something everyone can relate to."
Kreuziger said running for Homecoming Court was a good way for Impact to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
"Homecoming is a great way to show support and enthusiasm for campus," she said.
The top five king and queen candidates were chosen by a combination of votes and interviews. The king and queen winners will be announced tonight at 8 p.m. during the Variety Show in the Irvin Young Auditorium.
