When every other student in Grainger Library was studying for final exams last December, Ryan McNeily and Dustin Canter were drawing up a business plan for a loan to start up their own bagel shop on Green Street.

Nine months later, that business plan is coming to fruition with Howbowda Bagel, 611 E.

Regents re-open sexual assault investigation

The State Board of Regents unanimously voted to reopen an investigation into how the UI handled an alleged sexual assault case today. The meeting was triggered by a letter from the victim's mother which was released on July 18.

Beginning in January 2009, the University of Illinois at Chicago campus will officially have Dr. Paula Allen-Meares as its new chancellor. Allen-Meares, who was selected from a field of more than 100 candidates, is set to be formally confirmed as the new chancellor at the next Board of Trustees meeting.

University Police have released a sketch composite of a suspect in a July 13 sexual assault.

The sketch was drawn according to descriptions from the 19-year-old woman who was battered and sexually assaulted near the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue between 3 a.

Macomb police officer rewarded for saving woman's life

A month ago, the courageous acts of a local police officer were rewarded. Officer James Rowland of the Macomb Police Department received the Life Saving Medal award June 6 for saving an attempted suicide victim.

Rowland was one of the officers responding to a suicide complaint on March 18 when a suicidal woman shot herself in the chest.
